It's weird because they have no incentive to ever finish all the mechanics of the game if they can just make fancy ships and sell them. And time is money so a good portion of the donations just go into more ship development. The problem I see with this is that the ships are actually pretty nice which means they are spending a lot of time making them. They are treating the ship purchases as 'donations' with the ship as a bonus.
